CDP donated a bus to MEND NJ, an anti-hunger organization, who in turn has dubbed “The Green Bean.” In conjunction with The Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills (JLOSH), MEND NJ plans to use the bus as mobile food pantry and/or collection point for food drives. They will be undertaking a project this winter to outfit the interior of the bus with shelving to serve their patrons. Over 109,000 patrons are served annually by MEND (Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity), an interfaith network devoted to providing emergency foodstuff to families in crisis.
Many of their patrons lack regular access to fresh and healthy foods. With nearly half their served population being comprised of children and seniors, health risks accompany their dietary needs. MEND works to alleviate hunger in Essex County by providing fresh, healthy foods but offers other forms of vital support as well. Some locations offer clothing and household items, while others provide soup kitchens and hot meals. Another location functions as a daycare, with an additional operation serving as an emergency center.
Consider supporting MEND in their efforts to combat hunger. $5 a month provides healthy grocery staples to supplement their pantries, while a donation of $15 a month allows their organization to purchase the refrigeration and storage to provide more perishable items such as produce, dairy and meat. A dollar a day would go towards the conversion of the Green Bean and other collection/transportation related expenses to bring their services where needed the most: Donate
